Debruit - Sis Surpis EP (12" vinyl)

Debruit returns with another EP of spliced and diced fun wrapped in yet another bizarre 3D sleeve. Really liked the 'Spatio Temporel EP' he put out last year and this foray into the depths of Turkish popular music is yet another winner. Mixing traditional elements and sounds from Turkish music he heard whilst living in a Turkish neighbourhood in London and again when the French producer travelled to Turkey, Debruit has created a four track tribute to these curious sounds whilst incorporating them into his twisted production technique. The marriage of traditional Turkish instruments (zurna flutes, kabak kemane, darbuka and davul drums, Zurna flutes) with modern production technique and Debruit's innate desire to craft extremely funky electronic music makes for a great EP. The bizarre talk-box style of 'Spatio Temporel EP' is still ever present but the addition of strange reed instruments and odd percussive tones gives 'Sis Surpriz' a real exotic feel that sounds almost otherworldly. Totally spanking tunes!
