Anna Calvi - Blackout

Blackout by Anna Calvi

Every bugger is raving about this lass. She's a lovely voice on her, sort of PJ Harvey-esque, y' know, Blondie from The Duke Spirit but richer, real soulful..... Oooh you know, all smoky, come hither & sensuous! This tune is off her well received debut album and strong hints of the more elegant end of the 60's bristle & preen around the nucleus of its ascending cinematic chorus; then throughout you're teased with subdued flecks of flamenco & bluesy guitar, all this rolled into a steady, brooding atmospheric modern indie-ish guitar track that ebbs & flows in a very fine fashion indeed. I'm not at all sure about the Elvis cover on the flip. It all sounds a bit Duffy to me. But that 'Blackout' tune kinda sticks in your mind and definitely oozes a sultry class! So for the one track that's worthwhile here, she gets over half marks, lucky cow.

‘Blackout’ is the first single to be taken from
Anna’s exceptional eponymous debut album.

The single is pressed on heavyweight vinyl and
comes in a spined sleeve with printed inner bag.

B-side is a cover of Elvis Presley’s ‘Surrender’.

Limited edition of 400 copies for the UK.
