Dolphins by Mi Ami

4...according to our on Thu 10 Mar, 2011.

Having seen the departure of bassist Jacob Long it would seem that the Mi Ami lads (Daniel Martin-McCormick of Black Eyes, Sex Worker) and Damon Palermo of Jonas Reinhardt) have decided to mix things up a bit. 'Dolphins' seems to have dispensed with the Dub-Punk element (which makes sense if you ain't got no bass player no more) and introduced a little dance floor magic instead. The deranged vocal tendencies still keep things wildly upbeat and punk rock in nature but the instrumentation is on a total Detroit meets Italian Disco tip. The production remains murky and lo-fi and as the tracks evolve you get that skunky dub flavour rearing it's head every now and then, especially on the longer jams. I guess they're throwing a little of everything here, which includes elements of the recent Ital 12" Daniel put out on thingeo's new 100% Silk imprint. As usual they do a good job of pulling the whole thing off without sounding like cheeseballs and I'm pretty much hooked from the first track in. Thought they'd get around to the whole Miami Dolphins thing at some point... nice.
