Found - factorycraft

factorycraft by Found

4...according to our on Fri 11 Mar, 2011.

This is the second album by Found and this time they have the walloping might of Chemikal Underground behind them. Initial impressions - very Scottish, dodgy rhyming couplets but it gets better as it goes on. It sounds a little like a Hot Chip that grew up on Wire and Josef K rather than Sylvester or whatever it was they were listening to, in that the song structures are staccato and kind of R&B influenced but the music is taut and angular using guitars to ebb out new and interesting textures. The faint whiff of early 70's glam rock boogie seems to appear in a few tracks as do the modern pop moves of The Klaxons. I suspect they may have been listening to Sparks and The Associates in order to come up with this distinctive brew but it does veer off in odd directions. The intelligent songwriting and dry production sometimes recalls Field Music. In short interesting, twisty art rock.

· FOUND make their debut on Chemikal Underground with
‘factorycraft’, their first full ‘studio’ album after its
homemade predecessor ‘This Mess We Keep Reshaping’
was released to great acclaim via Fence in 2007.

· Released on CD, digital download and strictly limited (300
copies for the UK & Eire) deluxe heavyweight gatefold
vinyl with download code.

· FOUND caused much whooping and hollering ‘up North’
when they signed to Chemikal Underground last year, seen
by many as an auspicious sign of successful things to
come.

· A three-piece of guitar, bass and drum machines /
programmers, FOUND’s sound is an exhilaratingly modern
(if somewhat schizophrenic) fusion of different styles
recalling MBV, Hot Chip, Moondog and Ivor Cutler.

· The eye-catchingly minimalist, monochrome artwork
reflects the band’s interest in ‘turning manual labour into
fine art’, creating something unique from musical scraps
‘off the factory floor’.
