Eleventh Dream Day - Riot Now!

Riot Now! by Eleventh Dream Day

3...according to our on Thu 10 Mar, 2011.

Never relly paid much attention to Eleventh Dream Day but I'm the resident Thrill Jockey reviewer so I gotsta come up with some talk for you. These lads have been at it for a ridiculous 25 years with this being there tenth studio album! They play what now sounds like a classic form of American Indie Rock informed by the whole Chicago punk and underground scene. I don't know their stuff but this sounds decent and I'm sure in their heyday they we're a mighty force to be reckoned with. I really like the almost atonal vocal style of Rick Rizzo (who incidentally has a new record out with Tara Key (Antietam) entitled 'Double Star') against Janet Beveridge Bean's equally as strange shouty style. They make a great team! Musically they remind me of so many things (psych, grunge, indie-rock, college rock, new wave, post-punk etc) yet it's fundamentally just good American rock 'n' Roll played purely for the sake of rocking out. Kinda like Afghan Wigs or one of them lads. Pleased I noticed Douglas McCombs (Tortoise, Pullman etc) involvement and guest appearances from Jim Elkington (The Zincs) and Sally Timms (The Mekons) sweeten the deal.... good crew.
