You are probably familiar with Mr. Jaycock's 'Preset' LP that came out last year on Blackest Rainbow, right? Well the lad returns to with a new full length CD-R type jobby and this time he's mixing t'ings up a bit. With 'A Magnifying Glass For The Ants' Jaycock has chosen to put aside the traditional finger picking guitar workouts in favour of an exploration of drone and ambient sounds. There's a little of Jaycock's plucking style evident here but the bulk of the material focuses on long drones, bowed instruments and tasteful sweeping melodies. Though experimental in tone it doesn't really explore territory uncharted by other artists but he does add his own slant to proceedings and has made a fine contribution to this ever expanding genre field.
Following on from David's Presets LP last year for Blackest Rainbow, he has worked on a brand new full length CDR, exploring a more multi instrumental drone sound, experimenting with stringed objects and a far more dark sounding sound, but with its roots in some traditional sounding more far out folk. David's guitar plucking appears at various times, and its blends in perfectly with this new approach to his music. Limited to 100 copies in full colour covers.
