For this release, Rain Drinkers have created a beautiful one track odyssey lasting a little over half an hour. I checked it last night as a going-to-bed soundtrack & it were divine, I tell thee! I was thinking along the lines of Godspeed & Dirty Three basically because of the swooping, mournful strings but beneath, once more, the spirit of 70s German synthesizer music is yawning and stretching its ambient tendrils, ready for another day's zen-like mind reconditioning. So you think for a period this is a drone recording? Well, of course, there's elements - fluctuating waves of sound mingle forebodingly on the perimeters of the music and eleven minutes in you're briefly plunged into a unnerving bristling chasm that sounds like a ketamine flashback in Tibet or something. Before long the piece almost peters out into a quiet hum of near-nothingness before the glorious doom-laden strings begin their escalating return to the fray with the tinkle of chimes & the approaching suggestion of more synth glory. When that synth does appear, it's bringing more tragic news. A sad, evocative thing that glides into your mind, both warm yet loaded with nuance & the thrum of regret. A lovely conclusion to another cracking feat from this duo!
I am highly delighted to introduce you to the Rain Drinkers "Dwelling".This is their second recording for Reverb Worship following on from the superb and highly regarded "Bore Upon The Breath Of Dawn".Rain Drinkers are Zavier Krall and Joe Taylor. This time they have recorded one huge epic 30 minute plus track.Sounding not unlike Popul Vuh, "Zeit" era Tangerine Dream and Godspeed You Black Emperor! trapped deep inside a subterranean cave.As before the cover photography is by Danielle Dahlke.Taken on a cold wintery day in Wisconsin. This cd is available now in an edition of 77 hand numbered copies.
