Demian Johnston & Mink Stole - Trailed & Kept

Trailed & Kept by Demian Johnston & Mink Stole

4...according to our on Fri 18 Feb, 2011.

This is one sweet disc... How come I never heard of these guys before??? Demian Johnston is from Great Falls and Playing Enemy and Mink Stole is Chris Negrete of Radiation 4. The deal here is that Demian did one long guitar and pedal improvisation and then Chris got his filthy hands on it and put it in his top secret musical blender. The results are way cool... Things kicking off with shards of guitar scree with doom/ black metal undertones that recall recent Skullflower. Then some bleak and multi-dimensional drone territories are explored. 'Devil Takes The Something' takes us to devotional vocal black drone land and is particularly dramatic. 'Of Our Rivals' is a good pummeling conclusion to the album with layers of shifting noise creating some darkside hallucinations. The label say for fans of Aethenor, How to Dress Well (I'm not connecting with this comparison), Kevin Drumm, Pyramids, or Ajilvsga which gives you some idea of what to expect. Quality stuff on Debacle who have sent us another coupla cool releases this week.

Demian Johnston of Great Falls, Playing Enemy, and the phenomenal Dead Accents label teams up with Mink Stole (Chris Negrete of Radiation 4) for a colossal mind-warp.  Born in Seattle from one single take guitar/pedal improv by Demian, “Trailed & Kept” was then sent to Chris in LA to mangle how he saw fit.    What resulted is a monumental mixture of drone, metal, and noise tied together with a rich dose of processed vocals, a mixture couldn’t have resulted from either of these artists working alone.

For fans of: Aethenor, How to Dress Well, Kevin Drumm, Pyramids, or Ajilvsga.
