Live At Third Man by Conan O'Brien

5...according to our on Thu 14 Apr, 2011.

Conan O' Brein is a comedy institution in the good ol' US of A. He has fronted the Tonight Show and penned some classic Simpsons episodes (Marge and The Monorail) is one of his. He now fancies himself as a singer. He's actually a pretty good singer, he sounds like Elvis. Conan has released a live album of covers and spoken word pieces here. It sounds ace! This gig sounds like the best gig ever!! Its not a sort of plundering along affair. It's like a Fifties-style rock & roll show. He has a totally sweet band behind him and they lend a solid backbone for O' Brien to hang his many jokes and mannerisms upon. The songs range between rocked-up cover versions of Elvis and other R&R standards - some hit the mark others don't as much, but hey this is spontaneous comedy. It sounds ace and is produced by a little known guy called Jack White or summat, he was once in some dodgy band from Detroit or summat?? The spoken word pieces are also really funny, particularly the one about his middle class upbringing and the fact that he hung round with loads of upper class guys and they thought he was really poor. An enchanting listen and a welcome break from the shite you hear all day when you work in a record shop.
