This Charles Albright band are fucking nuts! Not quite as nuts as the serial killer they take their moniker from but still pretty nuts all the same. They ply their trade in ultra lo-fi experimental punk rock meaning this 7" has been recorded in the lairiest, noisiest possible way. Think Guitar Wolf noisy. We are talking serious tape saturation and a blatant disregard for the art of mixing. Obviously, this is no bad thing. We've all heard well produced records after all, is there any need to hear more? Probably not. I'll stick with these lads. They are loud, obnoxious and seriously fun. The press release says they're obsessed with early Black Flag (aren't we all) but I can't really hear it in the sound other than the fact that they've got a fairly experimental guitar playing approach with tons of scratchy tone and displaced solos. It also goes off on some random tangents which is a common Flag-ism on later albums. Mainly this is just good-time punk rock played for kicks and I like it a lot. Well scuzzy!
We got some of these from Permanent, not had these before.. CHARLES ALBRIGHT self-released a 7-inch last year that knocked us out. It obviously had the same effect on SCOTT SORIANO at S-S Records, cuz he reissued it on his own label. It s long since sold out and highly sought after. Anyhow, here s Mr. Albright s (not the serial killer, unfortunately) followup, a fine 7-song EP. It s a blown-out, lo-fi, catchy punk jammer with loads of hooks and sweet riffs. A couple of the tracks are experimental guitar instrumentals that give you a chance to catch your breath before picking yourself up off the ground to begin pogoing again. Charles is a big fan of Black Flag and if you are too (especially the early stuff), you ll probably dig this slab. Permanent Records
