We've had a couple of bits in by Hakobune, the most recent being an excellent 3" on Hibernate. Well Hibo follow that little beauty with this full length outing from from Kyoto resident and ambient guitar conjurer Takahiro Yorifuji. Hakobune's got the ambient credentials in check with releases from U-Cover, Symbolic Interaction, Waterscape and Install so you know the lads got skill. On 'Away From The Lunar Waters' Yorifuji explores the sonic landscapes with only his guitar and a few pedals. His style involves the building of various layers of light guitar drones which are then punctuated by occasional bubbled or rhythmic melodies created from vibrato, delay's and chorus's. The result is an ultra warm, highly accommodating collection of tranquil soundscapes that just about avoid being tarred with the new age brush...well, nearly. I gotsta admit, it's kind new age but at least it's not No Age, yeah.
Returning to Hibernate Records with a full album we welcome back Hakobune for whom in November 2009 we released a 3" Cdr ep called 'Isohel'. To date Hakobune has also had releases on U-Cover, Symbolic Interaction, Waterscape Install and his own label Tobira Records.
The man behind this project is Takahiro Yorifuji, born in a small town in Hyogo, Japan but now residing in Kyoto.
Yorifuji's music is characterised by the beautifully textured sonic landscapes he creates with his guitar. With this as the foundation of 'Away From The Lunar Waters', Yorofuji ran his improvised performances through pedals and recorded to a multi-track tape recorder. All the material on the album was recorded between the 28th October and the 2nd of November at Studio Kyoto, Japan. The result is a blissful shimmering arrangement of detailed drones, all the while punctuated by delicate jittering guitar fragments.
