Deradoorian / Albert McCloud - Deradoorian / Albert McCloud

Deradoorian / Albert McCloud by Deradoorian / Albert McCloud

3...according to our on Thu 17 Feb, 2011.

This one's a split of goodness. Deradoolian's 'Marichka' is a semi-dub slow jam centred around excellent percussive tones and a versatile vocalist. This is a sparse and incredibly tasteful piece of post-Zola Jesus pop songwriting and features production from Angel Deradoorian (also known for her work in Dirty Projectors) and Dave Portner (AKA Animal Collective's Avey Tare) so that should help you make up your mind. The B-side is a afro-beat ode to the stars entitled 'Planetarium' courtesy of Albert McCloud. Again, this one hangs on solid vocal contributions and features the Sacramento, CA area community choir (ages 15-50) as well as the Folsom High School jazz program rhythm section. It's based on a song conceived by Bruno Adams (1963-2009) and it's given a right royal treatment here.

· Deradoorian’s contribution to this split 7” is the
beautifully raw ‘Marichka’. Produced by Angel
Deradoorian (also known for her work in Dirty
Projectors) and Dave Portner (AKA Animal
Collective’s Avey Tare), the song is the first
glimpse of new material since 2009’s ‘Mind Raft
EP’.

· Elisabeth Wood is Albert McCloud. Her offering for
this split 7” is a tribute to the stars called
‘Planetarium’, a somewhat implausible sounding
Afro-Cuban-grooved choral arrangement of a tune
originally conceived by Bruno Adams (1963-2009),
and features a Sacramento, CA area community
choir, ages 15-50, as well as a rhythm section
plucked out of the Folsom High School jazz
program. Although Wood has more or less called
Berlin home since 2003, she’s now in the early
stages of working on a new album with a band in
Seattle.
