A vital force within the international cassette-culture noise underground of the 1980’s, the formidably prolific French composer Christian Renou / Brume has been honing his furiously fractured outsider-musique-concrete for more than 30 years now. His latest, Draft of Confusion, is a stereo distillation of a disorienting piece for tapes, bowed cymbals, percolating synthesizer, and mangled voices that was originally presented as a multi-channel installation in Portland, OR in 2008. The subtly malevolent music starts out as a slowly expanding deep-space drone, churning uneasily and winding back in on itself until the whole thing dissipates into a haze of analog vapor.
