Our single of the week (28th January 2011)
...according to our Clinton on Fri 28 Jan, 2011.
One of my least favourite words is Ringo, not sure why. It could be down to the dreadful 80's potato snacks Ringos, possibly due to suffering awful 90's Leeds band Ringos High or could it be beacuse of the tragic waste of life that is Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band? Anyway, here we have that most unusual of things - a good Ringo! London label Club AC30 has been keeping the shoegaze dream alive even when it was unfashionable to do so and lets hope they reap the rewards with this ace single which fits in with the current trend for bands sounding a lot like early poppy My Bloody Valentine. The A-side is a fantastic slab of indie pop with bright acoustic guitars, male/female vocals and those famous MBV distorted, tremeloed guitars. Has a bit of His Name is Alive in the melody too which is always a good thing. B side is a 'You Made Me Realise' re-write with shouty vocals that ultimately sounds almost exactly like ace Bostonian noise poppers Swirlies. Derivitive? Yes. A whole heap of fun? Yes.
Limited edition 7" 500 only. Austin, Texas based Ringo Deathstarr first single from their upcoming album, So High (mixed by Simon Barnicott -Doves, Temper Trap).
"Their pulsing layers of feedback and those droll, deadpan vocals are ripped straight from Psychocandy, but the galloping, amphetamine rhythms are harder charging than even the most amped up track on that album." - Pitchfork
"Billows of fuzz and noise mix with alternating vocals, evoking the overcast landscapes of a Sofia Coppola movie in slow motion." NYLON Ringo Deathstarr will be supporting Galaxie 500 on all dates of their European tour in 2011
