Bloody hell. Have these guys been munching on Nick Cave's sweat-rich socks? Or maybe just hoarding bits of his mangled Jaguar they sneakily swept off the road and having seances around an urn containing said debris? Actually, this is a little bit more imposing & beautifully rendered than any such pastiche would suggest. The singer also has a spot of Michael Gira in his deep intonations. His voice possesses a considerably more tender, romantic tinge than old laughing Mike though! The music is the usual rich blend of Lambchop/Seeds/ Tindersticks /Smog style Gothic country folk & rustic cinematic style atmospheres. The overall result is a sumptuous, absorbing EP with a full, earthy production & lashings of particularly affecting string work. Comes with numerous insert in a classic letterpress jacket, as well as including an exclusive film produced for the lead track! Up there with the best, certainly not the last.
