In the first of two new releases by legendary Swiss proto punk all girl band Kleenex (later Liliput) who existed in one form or another between 1978 and 1983 we have a 4LP vinyl box set documenting the entire contents of a previous double CD on Kill Rock Stars. Now we dare not open these for review purposes for fear of ruining them but a quick flick through YouTube reveals a band that should be lined up alongside The Slits,The Raincoats and Delta 5 as a classic band of their era. They produced two LP's and a slew of 7"s over a history that included a name change to Liliput once the suits from Kleenex the tissue people came calling. The similarity to The Slits is particularly strong with wiry guitars, sinewy bass and shouty vocals so the fact that they originally recorded for Rough Trade comes as no surprise. A treasure trove of lost and unheard classics from an era of music that inspired not only riot grrl but the new and saucy sounds emanating from the underground today.
One of the most unique punk bands of our time, hailed from Zurich, Switzerland. From 1978-80 Kleenex gigged around, recorded 2 7"'s and toured the UK with such acts as Gang Of Four, Subway Sect, The Swell Maps and The Raincoats. In 1980, the group changed their name to Liliput (due to pressures from the Kleenex tissue company) and continued under that moniker until their demise in 1983. As Liliput, 3 more 7"'s and 2 LP were released as the band evolved through numerous personnel changes.Finally the entire contents of the ever-popular Kill Rock Stars double CD is now available as a 4 LP set. Housed in a sturdy tip-on sleeve slipcase and includes a full color 12 page booklet.

Side 2 : 1 turn the table, 2 dolly dollar, 3 i had a dream, 4 do you mind my dream, 5 when the cat's away. LP 3 Side 1 : 1 birdy, 2 outburst, 3 tong tong, 4 umamm, 5 like or lump it, 6 his head all red. Side 2 : 1 in a mess, 2 might is right, 3 ichor, 4 you did it, 5 the jatz. LP 4 Side 1 : 1 on streets without names, 2 terrified, 3 feel like snakes twisting through the fog, 4 yours is mine, 5 blue is all in rush. Side 2 : 1 boatsong, 2 étoile, 3 a silver key can open an iron lock somewhere, 4 ring-a-ding-dong, 5 tschik-mo.
