Fiction - Big Things/ Mars 500

Big Things/ Mars 500 by Fiction

4...according to our on Thu 13 Jan, 2011.

Woah fuck, who let the keyboard line from 'Walk of Life' in? Apparently Fiction did, except they buckled it to a post-punk bassline, little bits of politely jagged guitar, a totally Television solo and a detached, slightly New Romantic vocal. Probably shouldn't work but it somehow does, creating one of the more interesting takes on (what's still essentially kinda) indie pop than I've heard in a while. 'Mars 500' on t'other side is a far broodier beast, being all '80s goth-pop ballad-y' and everything.. It's a little bit on the slight side but y'know, totally better than most.

London quartet, fiction release their second single on the fledgling hitclub records. 'big things' is the follow up to their debut single 'curiosity' and comes backed with 'mars 500'. produced by anthony rossomando (dpt, klaxons), the new single is released on limited seven inch vinyl. 'big things' is a classic slice of 80's england that sits somewhere between prime xtc and a fairground version of orange juice. it has style, groove and soul.
