This is that band wot some dude from screechy defunct kinderpunks Be Your Own Pet is in. It sounds proper fun; I recall the single was a bit of a beaut too. Melodic stoner space rock shits into my weary ears and as a 9am pick-me-up it's working an absolute treat. They've actually managed to build a reasonably fresh, buzzy sound with some well worn tools & staple ingredients. The guitars sound suitably fuzzy & grungy without being too in yer face. It kinda sounds like Fu Manchu with a mad tuneful Ramones style twist in parts. I feel like they borrow some of the style & riffing from dusty old desert rock but drop the grizzly blues elements & replace them with a wide-eyed NY style bubblegum indie feel. There's loads of tunes here that boogie & grind round your mind and whilst it's a pretty poppy album, there are chunks of punky heaviosity that are suitably fierce! None of the amped-up bedlam here can detract from this being a wickedly fun album that may appeal to those who like QOTSA's goofier moments & Sonic Youth's more melodic side. Top notch!
· Jeff The Brotherhood are brothers Jake and Jamin,
a psych-garage duo from Nashville.
· The Brotherhood have been called ‘kraut punk’,
‘psychedelic grunge’ and ‘noise pop’, drawing
comparisons to bands like Hawkwind, Wipers, and
early Sonic Youth.
· With three guitar strings and a minimal drum kit,
the band manage to distil rock to its primal
essence and have captured it with ‘Heavy Days’.
· “Jeff The Brotherhood […] color sturdy punk with
broad swathes of kraut rock and nineties grunge.
Relentless touring and a truly devastating live
show have made them very successful.” - The New
Yorker.
