Strange Moon Rising by Smoke Fairies

Not sure what to make of these two. They seem to get plaudits across the board and old Jack White has been sniffing around (well they are two lovely ladies and we know how Jack is). The music is a pleasant slightly bluesy affair and if witch-step was a term for post Stevie Nicks ethereal, patchouli scented hippified folk performed by beguiling ladies I would label it that but its not, so I won't. But maybe it should because that perfectly sums this up, its slightly mysterious and ever so creepy. It doesn't wallop you over the head but instead sidles up to you. Its not altogether different from the odd Warpaint song that I've heard (and has failed to register).

Following a highly eventful - and successful – 2010, SMOKE FAIRIES look set for a busy 2011 with a new single and their first ever UK tour.

“Strange Moon Rising” is the seductive second single from Smoke Fairies critically-acclaimed debut album, “Through Low Light and Trees”, and will be released as a limited edition 7” on 24th January. The track is backed by an inspired cover of “Requiem” by Killing Joke.
