Also on a dubstep tip is this 12" by Bristol's Headhunter. Starts slowly as John Peel may once have said but develops nicely into a mid paced laid back slab of atmospheric electronica with the odd vocal and dubbed out sample popping out of the mix. You know the type of thing chilled out late night/early morning feel with lovely sub bass and dub techno influences. The B side is more of the same - a bit beatier maybe with some old school jungle type keyboard motifs underneath some clonking beats. The whole thing builds expertly with again the trademark vocal samples used to good effect.
Whether throwing down techno-informed steppers for Tempa or creating juke-fuelled hysteria around crustaceans for LoefahÕs Swamp81 imprint, Headhunter (and his Addison Groove alias) always brings a startling level of sophistication to his productions. These two cuts bear the same high standards while also revealing a little more about his sonic palette. ÔLost ProphetÕ surges forth on a rock solid four-to-the-floor propulsion, offset by snappy top end percussion before being swathed in haunting pads and dubby FX. ÔChasing DragonsÕ chimes in on an instantly upbeat tip, pummelling a soca rhythm against an undulating melody. Deep without being downbeat and immaculately crafted, IDLE004 adds ever more breadth to the legacies of Headhunter, Idle Hands and ultimately Bristol music.
