Split by Carlton Melton/ Qumran Orphics

5...according to our on Thu 06 Jan, 2011.

Qumran Orphics? Who they then? Dunno but Carlton Melton I know and here's a split LP (250 made and there's 50 in the UK factfans) featuring both artists on some weird red and black splatty vinyl. Someone very nicely said it looked like I'd prolapsed all over the record. Thanks. Carlton do long stonery filthy sounding instrumentals somewhere in between Amon Duul and Hawkwind and the opener on this release is ace. It's a slow dirgey feedback infused mantric rockout (or maybe a rockalong as it's kinda slow). Some nice spacey sound effects popping up in between the feedback creating a nice atmospheric piece of music. I like it. Carlton's 2nd track is the fuzziest dirgiest, dirtiest thing I've heard in ages... I need a shower now. Qumran Orphics I know nothing about at all but I like the name. The music fits perfectly with Carlton Melton's (slow and dirgey) but this has a cultish dark feel to it and it clocks in somewhere in between Sunn, Happy Flowers (without the ridiculousness) and The Crazy world of Arthur Brown. Both sides are nothing short of being thoroughly entertaining.

After being one of our freak flag waving heros of 2010, Carlton Melton orbit early on in 2011 with a limited as all hell split LP (250 being made, we're getting 50) that throws out two amped up scuzz-trumentals, (seriously CM could be the missing link between GONE, Hawkwind, The Heads, GORE and Amon Duul..) backed with tracks from weirdo collective Qumran Orphics... http://www.qumranorphics.com/ check it.. theres a new Carlton Melton album in April 2011..jump on the magic carpet ride..
