Two bands. One slab of noisy yet tune-laden vinyl. Four cuts of garage rock goodness. In the red corner weighing in at 240 lbs is the terrible two, the duo who put the 'rage' in 'garage' the excellent Reading Rainbow. The offer a couple of left hooks of joyous scuzzy rock. The second track is a Velvet Underground cover. These guys are touring with the Dum Dum Girls at the moment so if you needed a pointer to how they might sound then add the last two bands I mentioned together and you probably wouldn't be a million miles away from where they are coming from. In the blue corner weighing in at 87 lbs and a huge chaffinch is the hip happening muscle from Brooklyn: Coasting. Another two piece with a deadly barrage of musical jabs. Coasting have a Vivian Girl in their arsenal and they pummel and stomp all over the opposition. It would be unfair to declare an outright winner on this occasion so I would deem this clash of the garage titans a big fat draw.. Erm the songs are pretty sweet by both bands. I didn't mind it at all....
A party on a roof in the midst of a forest. Our beings are being carried away by a non-existent storm. Throws us against saturated trees.
1, 2 and 3. After the Best Coast/ Jeans Wilder and Mathemagic/ Young Prisms split-7"s, it is now time for Coasting and Reading Rainbow to share a record. 4 songs.
Reading Rainbow is Sarah and Rob from Philadelphia. A few 7"s and an album just released on Hozac. 4 songs.
Coasting is Madison (Dream Diary) and Fiona (Vivian Girls) from New-York. A couple of 7"s on M'ladys and Group Tightener.
Tornado pop, lo-fi smiles, thundery melodies and garage heartbeats.
Limited to 350 copies, with a nice (as usual) artwork by Jeremy Perrodeau.
