One Bleak Try by Brian Grainger

Install present a new collection from Brian Grainger with each track being a collaborative effort with fellow Install artists David Tagg, Peter Wright, Shinobu Nemoto, Acreil, Jason Adams and Millipede. Recorded as a way for Grainger to thwart a serious case of writers block, 'One Bleak Try' is a six track CD of compositions exploring all avenues of failure. It's perky stuff. Well... It's not really perking stuff, it's oppressively heavy and slow in fact. Described by the label as Grainger's bleakest release thus far it's apparent from the opening riff of 'Queen Goat' that 'One Bleak Try' is a hideous beast of a record. A collaborative effort with David Tagg sees the duo dwell on a monstrous Melvins-aping riff, repeating the ritual over and over again to devastating effect. From there on it gets darker, bleaker and more unhinged with the composition becoming increasingly abstract as the record progresses. 'Black Rust Caress' with Peter Wright features wild blasts of white noise accompanied by abusive electronic tones that play on the eardrum for a good twenty minutes. Further experiments include a tape machine vs. spring reverb battle with Acreil and a number of fierce guitar stand-offs. It's an impressive display of brutality.

Another fruit from the Install family tree has ripened for the picking, and that is ONE BLEAK TRY. The new album by BRIAN GRAINGER, featuring guest collaborations by Install alumni David Tagg, Peter Wright, Shinobu Nemoto, Acreil, Jason Adams and Millipede. A mammoth set of six songs about failure, recorded in a violent effort to break down the walls of some severe writer's block Brian was experiencing in the early 2010 year. Make no mistake, OBT is quite possibly the heaviest, angriest music Brian has ever released. Considering the source of the material, the collaborators make OBT a surprisingly varied album, and one not to be missed for longtime fans of the Install repertoire.

Additionally in this update we're proud to be carrying limited quantities of the new album by Oregon field recordist and sound designer DAN CRALL. Following Dan's Installation debut North and the self-released follow-up Recluse Abandon, his newest album NON-FORMULA EQUINOX is a fascinating collection of sound collage, field recordings and outsider music, presented in a way only Crall can do.
