Buy Nothing Day by The Go Team

4...according to our on Thu 20 Jan, 2011.

I was surprised by how much I didn't hate the new Go Team album although I can't even remember if I even actually heard them the first time around. I feel like I did even though I'm fairly confident I didn't 'cos they were, like, totally everywhere at the time. 'Buy Nothing Day' features Bethany Cosentino "of Best Coast/previously of Pocahaunted fame" on lead vocals, sounding more like a pro-singer than ever before, and apparently The Girls At Dawn are on there too.. Way to pile the guests on, like. It's a sweet little tune I've got to say. There's not a lot to it but I guess pop needn't be a complicated business and the purity and simplicity of this catchy, summery little fucker make it very hard to dislike. 'I'm Not Satisfied' is a cover of a '60s girl group tune I'm not familiar with, featuring vocals by Soko and it kinda sounds like fellow Brighton-ites the Pipettes back when they were ace.

Set for release on digital and delicious orange 7”
vinyl, ‘Buy Nothing Day’ is the first single to be
pulled from The Go! Team’s upcoming new album
‘Rolling Blackouts’.

Recorded by the Team at the tail end of 2009, the
Brighton based boy / girl sextet deliver a sun
bleached slice of hyper girls-in-the-garage jangle,
with Bethany of Best Coast bringing the Californian
sun on lead vox.

On the flip side is a cover of Betty & Karen’s lost
60s girl group nugget ‘I’m Not Satisfied’, featuring
the vocal talents of French singer Soko.
