Catwalk - (Please) Don't Break For Me

(Please) Don't Break For Me by Catwalk

4...according to our on Thu 16 Dec, 2010.

Catwalk is the moniker of Nick Hessler, a resident of Oxnard, CA. With only 19 years on the clock and five years of writing/recording experience Hessler's music arrives at my door fully formed. '(Please) Don't Break Me' has a classic songwriting style that hints at the Beatles but has more in common with the Creation bands of the late 80's/early 90's. It's basically mod pop but with Spectorish production style that's heavy on reverb and high-end frequencies giving it a deliberate lo-fi (by today's standard) sound and a subtle psychedelic edge. B-side 'No Room For Love' reinforces this theory by adding a little neo-flower power influence to the mix. Sounds like Chapterhouse or Slowdive I reckon. Good stuff.

Catwalk is the project of 19-year old Oxnard, CA native Nick Hessler. Although he's young, he's already been recording under the monicker for 5 years. With that experience, he's been able to perfect his brand of "winsome, distanced indie pop" and this release is fully-formed and mature. "(Please) Don't Break Me" has all the guitar hooks, harmonious vocals and bright production style you'd expect from someone with Nick's influences (Phil Spector, Alex Chilton, Creation Records..) plus something modern and unique. Look for another 7" from Catwalk from us soon, quickly followed by their debut LP.
