Sometimes when you pick up a record you just know you are going to like it. A big 12" record with a lovely sleeve to start - put the needle on the record and its just what you want. Whilst flying across the A64 to get here today I had a Junior Boys album on repeat and this follows along nicely from that glacial, crystallized electro pop. With scattered beats, New Order-influenced bass and detached vocals, the atmospherics recall The Cure at times though I'm also reminded of the rhythmic post-krautrock of Kriedler and To Rococo Rot. There's the whole hazy Ariel Pink snapshot thing going on as if recalling The Chameleons rather than Hall and Oates and at times snatches of the bleak late night London of Burial or The xx fade into view and back out again. An excellent EP with each track as strong as the last. Recommended.

R&S round off a fine year that has seen them release of string of amazing releases from some of the most talented young new artists to emerge from the underground, as well as singles from some serious techno heavyweights. Their final release of 2010 sees them introduce the debut single from new signings Vondelpark. Vondelpark make lofi pop music, combining guitars, vocals and programmed beats. Their music is evocative of hazy summer landscapes and informed by the melting pot of London's underground music scene. This four track EP is the perfect introduction to their ghostly, laidback charm. Recorded in their bedrooms, this unpolished 4 track gem gives an indication of what this young band are capable of.
