These guys have never heard of Ian Curtis or Andrew Eldritch. It's a bit like Joy Division But with massive cock rock choruses. An unholy mixture. One that makes me shudder. Its a a bit like Editors. It reminds me of loads of things that make grown men cry. It has lyrics that can be found on the floor of any bed-wetting sixth former. I'm just not having it. The flip side is better. Its a remix by Datassette which strips away the "rousing" chorus and overbearing pomposity and leaves you with a straight ahead electro stomp that sounds way better than the A-side. These guys are gonna be massive next year but so will my prostate. Remix 1.. Side A 0!!
To Lose My Life entered the UK charts at #1when released in January 2009 and went on to sell well over 750,000 copies around the world. New band of the year gongs at both the Q and Mojo awards alongside NME cover features and a coveted number 2 slot in the NME readers album of the year poll confirmed that 2009 had been some year for White Lies. And so into 2010 the band bring you their first new single available as a Limited Edition 7". The first track from their new long player due out the week after and it is a towering, glowering, thumping track titled Bigger Than Us.
...according to Michael.
I never expected this band to release better stuff than on their debut album, and so they didn't prove me wrong. They are just mediocre enough to be liked by millions of hip retro-kids. And they keep on doing what they can. And that's not much, just watch some live videos and you know what I am talking about. It's still that mix of Duran Duran and bad german Depeche Mode copycats like Camouflage or Alphaville. Awful.
