These guys have been on the music bloggers radar since 2007 (wow that's a long time in music!!!) and they come recommended by Dan Deacon from Deacon Blue...( Dan Deacon is in no way affiliated with Deacon Blue....If he was sick on the red carpet at an awards ceremony would the headlines scream "DEACON BLEW!!!"??) This three piece from the good ol' US of A sound great. Very good actually. They have a power pop thing going on. It's a bit lo-fi. This record has some great songs on it. It reminds me of Neil Young mixed with summat like Fergus & Geronimo. The guitars jangle and zing. The drums and rhythms shuffle about the place. They actually have a really warm sound that is very easy to fall into. The vocals are quite smokey sounding, mebbe a bit like Chan Marshall or summat. It's a strong album though is this little puppy. Almost all the songs have a 67% rating on Rotten Tomatoes..a bit like me. The album also co stars Sharon Von Etten on backing vocals and guitar on a few tracks and T.V and Film actor Bill Pullman on trips to the deli. It has a country tinged feel and it's a really interesting listen. Power pop with a soupcon of melancholy.
Underwater Peoples is proud to present the debut LP from Air Waves. New York/ Austin's Nicole Schneit wrote all the songs and plays guitar throughout the album. Her soft, clear voice careens across walking bass lines, big cymbals and brassy guitars. Her songs are universally described as warm, inviting and bittersweet. Nicole's pop reaches great depths, enticing all who hear to stay and listen. Dungeon Dots, and features Sharon Van Etten, as well as YellowFever's Jennifer Moore.
