Free Fall - Gray Scale

Gray Scale by Free Fall

Free Fall is:
Ken Vandermark – clarinets
Håvard Wiik – piano
Ingebrigt Håker Flaten – doublebass

Smalltown Superjazzz is proud to present the brand new studio album from the Free Fall trio consisting of Havard Wiik, Ken Vandermark and Ingebrigt Haker Flaten. With clarinets, piano and bass Free Fall creates magical moods and brings the heritage of Jimmy Giuffres` legendary 60s trio with Paul Bley and Steve Swallow into the new millennium.

The album was recorded at Fattoria Musica in Germany by Stephan van Wylick in September 2008. It was later mixed and mastered by Ken Vandermark and Bob Weston (Shellac) at Chicago Mastering Service. The cover was made by Rune Mortensen based on photos taken by Ken Vandermark. Free Fall debuted with “Furnace,” to great acclaim in 2002. The album was released on Mac McCaughan`s (of the punkrock group Superchunk) Merge Records` (Arcade Fire) jazz imprint, Wobbly Rail. After that the trio signed to Smalltown Superjazzz and released the great “Amsterdam Funk” and „The Point
In A Line“ to wide acclaim.
