This gets going with a slamming EBM stomper with a filthy New Beat groove and sci-fi electronics. If you've clocked the sleeve you can probably guess that this is totally on the retro future tip with big Carpenter inspired synths, tinges of Italo disco, some ass grinding sleazy, slow, stomping moments like on 'Storm Column'. Then there's the twisted, warped horror electro of 'Serpent'. 'Giza' is a floor friendly tune with bubbling bassline and old skool Belgian snares. 'Mirage' is a bit of a monster with its acid tinges and darkside vocal samples. One for the strobes and smoke. Gatekeeper has totally nailed a classic sound which is an amalgamation of all his influences yet remains his own.
• Sophomore EP from NY-based electronic "slasher disco" duo Gatekeeper, following the ‘Maximus Optimus’ EP on Kompakt’s Fright imprint last year.
• Heavily influenced by soundtrack music and cinematic aesthetics, this is cerebral dance music, fusing early techno, Chicago house and italo-disco with haunting melodies, sinister soundtrack atmospherics and John Carpenter allusions to form one vividly detailed, phantasmagorical adventure.
• Will appeal equally to fans of Salem, Oneohtrix Point Never, Glass Candy and Actress.
