Jahdan Blakkamoore - Babylon Nightmare

Babylon Nightmare by Jahdan Blakkamoore

4...according to our on Thu 13 Jan, 2011.

I'm rather enjoying this slab of contemporary roots reggae, Jahdan's voice hits the spot and the intelligent and spiritual lyrics are just the ticket. 'Flying High' being particularly good. This guy has collaborated recently with Major Lazer and in the past everyone from DJ Premier to Lee Perry and Dead Prez. 'Down In The Ghetto' samples Eek a Mouse classic 'Ghetto' while hip hop tactics are deployed throughout the album. As well as the more conscious stuff like 'Red Hot' there is also some more straight up dancehall styles. Some well decent moments on here.

The roots of 'Babylon Nightmare' – the second album from Jahdan Blakkamoore - run deep, and Jahdan's vocal abilities,
creative intelligence, vast influences and melodic sensibilities are finely displayed throughout a 17-track monster musical
journey showcasing fine musicianship and vocal prowess on riddims that span from one drop, hip hop and pop to acoustic and
club tracks. Dubbed "the authentic connection between reggae and hip hop" (Village Voice), Jahdan Blackamoore is actually
much more, having created his own wholly unique path to success. He is at once unclassifiable and exists in a class all his
own. Blakkamoore's worldly outlook and approach has melded a new fusion of sounds, where dancehall meets dubstep, and
hip hop blends into roots reggae. Jahdan was born in Guyana but moved to Brooklyn when he was young. He became quickly
immersed in all the music that city had to offer. As he matured, hip hop heads came to know him from his lyrical collaborations
with DJ Premier, Afu Ra, Boot Camp Click and Dead Prez. Reggae and roots fans took note of his band, Noble Society, and
collaborations with Lutan Fyah, Lee Perry and Norris Man, and clubbers caught his recent work with Diplo and Switch on
their Major Lazer project. Jahdan has crafted his testimonial masterpiece on an album that takes you through years of artistic
advancement, studio experience, Brooklyn living and creative progress. 'Babylon Nightmare' has been put together by a stable
of talented musicians and producers, including Lion Dub, DJ Child from Project Groundation, Nick Fantastic and The Zion I
Kings, all of whom have attained notable credits in reggae, hip hop, jungle, dubstep and world music – and the results speak for
themselves.
