Filed under 'talented tosser', Wolf's career has veered between his undoubted musical ability and his similarly impressive ability to be somewhat of an idiot. Here he is in full-on orchestral pop mode showing what he can do when he really knuckles down. Its uplifting swooning pop recalls The Divine Comedy, ABC, Pulp and The Triffids. Very immediate, very strong, though strings a little overcooked. He tackles a Leonard Cohen song on the B-side and again it recalls The Triffids. Not bad at all.
PATRICK WOLF returns on December 6 with a brand new single “Time Of My Life”, released on a brand new label, Hideout Recordings. "Time Of My Life” will be available in a very limited edition 7” vinyl aswell as a 12” featuring 3 remixes both vinyl releases serve as a precursor to the full CD/download release of a second single in March 2011, followed by Patrick’s brand new album in May. The 7” will also feature a cover of the Leonard Cohen track ‘Anthem’ on the B side. The single and album were produced and written by Patrick Wolf and feature strings recorded at Air Studios. Patrick is the very first signing to Hideout Recordings, a new label set up by Keith Wozencroft and Dan Keeling, which operates as a joint venture with Vertigo/Universal Records.
