Kurt Vile is an interesting guy. He has weaved a way through the mine strewn battlefield that is life with just a guitar, a box of cereal and two copies of What Car? magazine. He is a festival circuit regular and he got his big break playing Leroy in "Fame". I quite like Mr Vile and his records are usually sweet. He reminds me of a less nasal Neil Young or a crappy Bruce Springsteen. He's not a as chest beating or swaggering as The Boss
and I reckon calling him crappy is .. Well, a bit tight. I'll call him the stoner Bruce Springsteen, which I reckon is a more worthy accolade. This single is ace. It makes you feel nostalgic and warm with a sort of bittersweet after =taste. I reckon it's psych-rock with lo-fi leanings. It's a welcome listen and it will sit in your record collection really nicely. Oh and the flip side's a total banger....
Kurt Vile offers a preview of things to come with ‘In
My Time’ due for release on November 9th.
The Philadelphian troubadour is currently firmly
ensconced in the studio with John Agnello (Mark
Lanegan, Bob Dylan, Dinosaur Jr.) putting the
finishing touches to his third album, the follow-up
to last year’s critically-lauded long-player Childish
Prodigy (recently long-listed for Uncut Magazine’s
2010 Album of the Year). The as-yet-untitled album
is expected in 2011 but as a precursor to that
release and a taste of things to come, Kurt Vile will
issue a new 7” on November 9th through Matador
Records.
