Right. Now he's not trapped within the tyrannical grasp of EMI anymore, all the cool dudes are working with Gough again. If Seahawks are cool that is. I've only seen one record by them & that was some cosmic picture disc on Statutory Caribbean. As it happens i'm quite taken by the colour-by-numbers picture on the flip of the insert. I'm kind of nodding along to this post-Kraut piece of trippy downtempo that is apparently a track from the last BDB album. Like Votel's sound collage, this is very cosmic & dreamy. The binman's vocals float in & out briefly of this long extended wibble of a tune. It's most pleasant if not a tad smooth & sterile for my tastes. Totally crisp production & that. I'd have liked a bit more of a groove to this exotic fishtank of a 12". It's a fishtank you see. When it could have been a sonic coral reef.....Brett is reminded of the "hold" music you get when you ring 02. I can't comment. I wouldn't ring them up. I think I still owe them 80 quid. If you don't like the Mancunian hobo OR Seahawks then perhaps you're a massive Pete Fowler nut. The other side of this has a truly marvellous etching and the insert is SIGNED by the great man. So, 3 different reasons to part with yer wonga. 3 for da tunes but a secret extra one for da etching catapult this piece straight up the Norman desirability rankings...
Seahawks set sail with a mythical beast of a remix that recasts ‘the boy’ as 21st century prophet, high on dope and religion, all alone at sea and hungry for new dawn's light.
Thirteen plus minutes of psych drones, tape manipulation, sub aquatic dub, fx flares, smooth pulse beats, celestial choirs and sounds from the deep.
Possibly the finest piece of work yet from Seahawks whose bleached out sound has been smeared all over this year's musical map.
The package as always with Seahawks releases, is immaculate, a one sided etched vinyl 12” with full colour tripped out print, ready for framing courtesy of the inimitable Pete Fowler. The 12” is also limited to just 500 copies
SEAHAWKS
“There are three sorts of people. Those who are alive. Those who are dead. And those who are at sea.”
Seahawks make a sound all of their own that fuses their love of smooth rock and disco with the more cosmic and experimental sounds associated with the German Kosmiche scene and more recently American acts like Emeralds and OPN.
Some have called it ‘psyche-balearica’’ others ‘comic discoid yacht rock’ one thing’s for sure, their amalgam of cosmic synth, yacht rock, beach pop and deck shoe gaze is sure to float your boat.
The Seahawks vessel is manned by Jon Tye and Pete Fowler, two veteran sailors on the cosmic sea. Their recent 7” picture disc on Static Caravan sold out in a few weeks and their series of 12”s on Captains Log are vanishing quickly.
