Omar Rodriguez Lopez - Tychozorente

Tychozorente by Omar Rodriguez Lopez

The newest full-length release from The Mars Volta's guitar prodigy is unique in that it's the first in his catalogue to feature absolutely no guitar tracks whatsoever. A collaboration of sorts between Rodriguez-Lopez and Los Angeles-based beatmaker Elvin Estella (aka DJ Nobody), Tychozorente is a kaleidoscopic canvas of electronic landscapes punctuated by samples, keyboards, xylophones, etc., recalling the work of artists as varied as Boards of Canada and Flying Lotus. Vocals are provided by Rodriguez Lopez and frequent collaborator, Ximena Sariñana Rivera, with multi-instrumentalist Marcel Rodriguez Lopez rounding-out the lineup. Overall, a far more subdued effort than the majority of his other releases, and anything released by The Mars Volta, Tychozorente reiterates the fact that it's creator simply cannot be pigeon-holed.
