Another day, another example of me playing an entire record at the wrong speed. Anyway I won't review what it was like at 33rpm (pretty good actually) but instead concentrate on 45rpm. According to The Wire magazine 8Bitch lady Maya Medvedek is also a TV actress,model, businesswoman and video game character. Feck me - I do nothing, literally nothing. Its a skittering, tuneful post dubstep romp, with bleepy melodies, drums going haywire, haunting distant Detroit House type atmospheres, track 2 has sampled soulful vocals, squelshy synths whilst on the flip there's some neat and tidy electronica recalling Squarepusher at his most tuneful and finally some bell-like chiming catharsis. Overall a tidy package with hints of greatness to come.

The 8Bitch is one Maya Medvesek of Slovenian descent now splitting her time between Glasgow and London where she’s creating some of the freshest electronic club music around.

Part of the second wave of talented producers to come out of Scotland alongside the likes of Hudson Mohawke, Runrig, Floella Benjamin and Rustie, her ‘G41’ track has already made an appearance on Ministry of Sound’s ‘Adventures In Dubstep and Beyond’ and a heavy touring schedule - which will see her taking in everywhere from Copenhagen to a public toilet in Shepherd’s Bush - is sure to set her up for even bigger things in the future, possibly even a brickie’s portacabin.

‘Equinox’ is a startling debut EP on Seed Records and we’re very proud of it. Mythical in stature, the tunes are all named after Greek and Egyptian gods and goddesses, but for god’s sake don’t read too much into that, all you really need to know is there is more flavouring in 8Bitch’s aural oeuvre than Levi Roots’ Reggae Reggae Sauce bubble bath which may yet be proven to be the original source of her fated digital disfigurement. Musician since the age of 5, Penelope Cruz’s stunt double since the age of 6, Ronnie Corbett’s from the age of 7, plus three times Judo champ in her homeland, is there nothing that the 8Bitch can’t turn her hand to? I say hand, because her left hand is actually made from plastic and therefore doesn’t count. Next time you meet her, look closely. It’s amazing.
