There are no palm trees in Oxford so Chad Valley builds his own tropical paradise on his debut release for Cascine with hazy samples and lush electronic atmospherics. Evoking a sense of both sentimentality and conquest, Hugo Manuel as Chad Valley layers futuristic R&B on top of glittering harmonies to provide the ultimate vivid listening experience. Like the crystalline surface of the ocean, Hugo’s voice feels far away and expansive, yet also intuitive and warm. “I wanna say everyone is different. And I wanna feel everyone is still the same” he sings, surrounded by slow-breaking waves of luxuriant texture. These tracks are about giving in to wanderlust, drifting in and out of eras and places. Watching the sun go down and up and down again. Never wanting to come back. No matter where you’re going, eventually you’ll get to where you need to be.
