Dent May - That Feeling

That Feeling by Dent May

3...according to our on Thu 04 Nov, 2010.

This guy is a weirdo. His new single touches on the more bearable excesses of smooth 80's Yacht rock but infuses it with a kind of swinging white-boy funk that Haircut 100 & latter-period Orange Juice may well have rejected for being too smooth. It sounds like the fucking Style Council which is not funny. Thing is, much like our Clint, i've got to admit there's often some real mileage with this stuff in the tune stakes. Somehow the balmy vocal delivery reminds me of Panda Bear whose Animal Collective erm.....collective put this guy's last affort out on their Paw Tracks. For all it's sterile coctail bar brass & sickly gloss, the song is actually quite a dreamy winner. It does get rather "Spandau Ballet" towards its climax as i've just been informed of by Phil climbing on top of me and bellowing in my ear. Much more helpful is Ant's quieter assertion that it recalls latter-period Roxy Bryan Music Ferry. Does any of this sell it to you? If you unconditionally like quality smooth, catchy pop songs then grab it without hesitation but if the essence of a 1000 Thatcherite-era wine bars shitting in your ears does not appeal then avoid.

Limited edition of 1000, with the first 500 coming on smooth, soft lavender vinyl. Artwork by Will Bryant.
