When you receive a CD in a brown cardboard arigato pak you kinda know what you're gonna be getting these days. It's gonna be either ambient, drone, pastoral or electronica. This one falls into the pastoral section and features folks from Port-Royal, Stafraenn Hakon, Epic 45, Millimetrik, members of Hood, The Declining Winter and more folks. All star cast assembled! It sounds great as well from what I've heard. 'Old Memory Tapes' sounds a lot like The Declining Winter and Epic 45 but then it features members of both playing on it. That explains that one! The acoustic guitar that plays throughout the album is the main feature as it's delightful. Accompanying it are instruments like melodica, keyboards, drums, glockenspiel, hammered dulcimer, violin, etc. Bloody loads of different instruments on here and together they create a warm sounding pastoral beast which is gonna appeal to fans of both Epic 45 and Hood.
After almost two years since his latest album postcards from nowhere and his collaboration with port-royal on the split album magnitogorsk, absent without leave has returned with his new album faded photographs.
faded photographs is the most accomplished and accessible absent without leave release to date, featuring guest appearances from some really great artists, including port-royal, stafraenn hakon, epic45, millimetrik (below the sea, le chat blanc orchestra, glider, parallel lines) and members of hood, the declining winter, plumerai, eksi ekso, tupolev, slon and others too.
Surely a highlight of the year, faded photographs is a must for fans of fragile shoegaze, melodic post-rock and cinematic ambient sound.
The album is packaged in an elegant 4-panel digipak of recycled cardboard with the front cover image printed on photo paper!
It's a limited edition of 500 handmade collectible copies and each copy is unique with a different front cover image."
