Girls - Broken Dreams Club

Broken Dreams Club by Girls

3...according to our on Thu 18 Nov, 2010.

Singersongwritery gubbins from the man some people call Christopher Owens. Other people call him Girls. I think I will call him Obelointment Von Gentchler. The music on this mini opus is a far cry from his (hers?) earlier releases... Well maybe not so much a far cry, more of a inaudible yelp. It's less scrappy than other stuff I've heard, it has all the markings of a big professional rock record. Slick drum sounds, loads of instruments vying for your attention, special guest stars (TV and film actor Gary Sinise lends some kazoo to a track) and the overall feel is one of Elvis Costello type tunes with a number of floppy fringed fops being morose sometimes then being happy the next. Some of the tunes on this album sound romantic, other tunes sound spaced out and almost Beach Boys-esque. It all sounds quite nice but so does the idea of Megan Fox popping out of a huge cake with a sort of "Where's Dave?" expression on her little face. Not a bad offering....
