The Dark Sky Singers - Like No English

Like No English by The Dark Sky Singers

4...according to our on Fri 22 Oct, 2010.

The internet tells me that The Dark Sky Singers are a collective from the North East of England. Not without humour according to their website but also good at withholding information meaning lazy reviewers like myself have to think for themselves rather than reading off their influences list and coming to some misguided conclusion. The music here is a folky blend of nylon strung acoustic guitars, pianos, accordions, flutes, with hushed male vocals on top. Reminiscent of a much more subdued Leisure Society, the lyrics seem to be about normal things you can relate to and so don't grate like a lot of the modern day folk artists who like to sing about dingly dells, wenches and riverbanks. 'Stars' is the standout, a gently building rolling melody that is short enough to leave you begging for more. The folky vignettes are spliced by darker ambient material that serves nicely as a contrary element. This is a limited edition of 150 and we have an EXCLUSIVE on this. Wa-hey!
