Was anyone else as upset as I was that Laura Marling has gone back from brunette to blonde? I mean life goes on etc. but she looked better as a brown hair. I'll get over it, I suppose. Now she has teamed up with Jack White for a new single on his label Third Man. The lead track 'Blues Run the Game' is very familiar. I think Nick Drake may have covered it and the guitar picking certainly recalls the minstrel at his finest. B side is a take on Neil Young's 'Needle and the Damage Done' a song covered to death already- I'd like to have heard her do something less familiar. This literally could be anyone performing this at any bar or coffeehouse anywhere. Still, its a good song and she's a good singer so everything's good.
A real summer hit, two cover versions by Laura Marling acoustic guitar and voice only. Recorded at Third Man Records with Jack White. One of the UK's best new artists of recent years delivering some amazing folked / blues take on a couple of classic songs.
