This new Beach Fossils single is a enchanting mixture of The XX and something else really Mid-80s. It has a soft, spongy snare sound and sweet delayed guitars with hushed vocals. It reminds me of the Byrds with it's jangle and hippy sentiments but mixed with a more contemporary dance music feel. I don't know if that appeals to anyone but, then again, people keep telling me how "great" The Sons of Mumford are. You can't preach to the converted, but you can listen to Beach Fossils and be swayed by there take on modern life. The b-side is ace too. It retains the same flower-pop style but with a modern edge. A damn fine single.
A brilliant follow up to their debut album from earlier in the summer. Phase two of Beach Fossils starts here. Gone is the "lo-fi" and the comparisons that go with it. More expansive sounds, John Pena and Katie Garcia on guest vocals, keyboard, electronic drums....Consider it a taster of things to come.
