Are these Swedish? Oh, they were on a Scandinavian label before. This is smooth 80s inspired radio-indie from MancLand (tm) that has a strong suggestion of Mew in there. But they can't quite manage the "interesting bit" like those crazy Danes. There's something catchy & breathless about this tune though - the dinky sounding guitars do lots of quirky interwining things and there's some fairly inspired qualities to the overall arrangment which lifts it beyond much of the chaff. I find it all a bit too polished & annoyingly airy though, but that's not to say it's a bad song in any way, I just prefer my music to wallow in the mud for a while so it forms a crust when it dries out. I can get me teeth into it better then......
• Manchester five-piece Dutch Uncles have been at the forefront of the city’s recent renaissance in forward thinking pop and are all set to release brand new single ‘Fragrant’, their debut release on new label Memphis Industries.
• A three minute slice of chrome plated futuristic pop, ‘Fragrant’ is a huge leap forward for Dutch Uncles and bodes well for their debut UK album release slated for Spring 2011.
