Another slice of ambient fun coming my way...This time it's Antwerp's synthscaper/soundmanipulator and anti-musician Innercity delivering the goods. I know little about this artist but it would appear that he's been very busy of late with releases on Taped Sounds, Ikuisuus, Rotifer, Ruralfaune, Upstairs and his own Why So Serious imprint. Now, for an 'anti-musician' this guy knows how to create beautiful soundscapes of tranquility. 'Futurelife' is chock full of bubbling tones and astral audio drones all manipulated and mashed up to create something otherworldly and fresh sounding to my ear. In parts it touches on that naturalist new age style ambiance that we are hearing a lot of lately but listen on and all sorts of strange sounds present themselves, almost verging on occultist ritualism in parts. There are some disturbing audio samples (crying, wailing, strange indefinable whimpering etc) on here that prevent the whole from going completely utopian and leave me feeling slightly unnerved and out of sorts, which I guess is a good thing? Either way, I'm pretty pleased with this effort. Also comes with a bonus tape entitled 'Future Life Reloaded' which I'm assuming re-visits the material from the LP. It's probably mint.
