Well after over a year of writhing away to the atmospheric strains of their mini-LP Exquisite Corpse, these 4 LA lovelies finally unleash the beast, I mean "The Fool". 9 tracks this time & their template remains approximately the same. Sensual harmonies mingle with spectral, ethereal guitars, airy fluid bass & steady ever-evolving drum patterns. They have a seriously laid-back attitude these girls but their songs are much, much more than bliss-rock sketches. They realise the power of space and use it most wisely. The thing I love most about them is they don't really fit in to any particular genre. Their tribal lullabies have as much in common with the brittle, tentative explorations of the XX as they do the heavenly majesty of Cocteau Twins or the delectable breathy vocal stylings of Bat For Lashes. The most important thing to me is the songs are well structured, brilliantly played, and rather than merely present you with catchy throwaway pop nuggets, these tunes just flow & evolve in loose seductive patterns. All-in-all a relatively downtempo & cerebral treat with lashings of rich textures & come-hither magic, although when things get a little rockier round the edges it's all done in a beautifully restrained, implicit & mesmerisingly feminine manner you cannot resist. This is slinky space pop at its best and I'm very much in love....x

Los Angeles all-girl four-piece Warpaint are set to release their debut album ‘The Fool’ on Rough Trade.

Recorded in a gym in LA, ‘The Fool’ was produced and mixed by Tom Biller (Karen O – ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ and ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ soundtracks), with further mixes from Andrew Weatherall (New Order, Primal Scream, Bjork) and Adam Samuels (Pearl Jam, Willie Nelson).

The album follows their ‘Exquisite Corpse EP’, released in 2009.

In addition, The xx have hand-picked Warpaint to support them on their September/October tour of the US.

Over the last twelve months the band have also toured with Yeasayer, Band of Horses and The Walkmen.

Warpaint are Emily Kokal (vocals/guitar), Theresa Wayman (guitar/vocals), Jenny Lee Lindberg (bass/vocals) and Stella Mozgawa (drums).
