Cloud Nothings - Hey Cool Kid

Our single of the week (15th October 2010)

Hey Cool Kid by Cloud Nothings

I really like these guys. They remind me of what I was like back in the early 90's, going into shops and buying obscure US indie 7"'s (Wing Tip Sloat, Thinking Fellers, GBV, Grifters etc) and discovering new exciting shit. Cloud Nothings can't half string a decent pop tune together 'n all. I'm totally obsessed with 'Can't Stay Awake' from the album. Listen to that and it relentlessly sticks in your head. You can't escape it! 'Hey Cool Kids' is another bona fide pop tune which will jam itself into your memory for pretty much the rest of your life. This is perfect US indie pop/ rock... it sounds like a shambling mess but underneath it is an amazingly catchy pop tune. Genius!

Limited edition of 300 hand-stamped 7"s

Less than a year into their existence, Cleveland's Cloud Nothings have made quite an impression. 18 year old Dylan Baldi recorded a handful of taut catchy lo-fi indie rock songs on his computer over the winter. Next thing we know the folks are praising his songs with adjectives like "ebullient", "punchy", and "insanely catchy". Over the course of 2010, Cloud Nothings proceeded to release a handful of singles and EPs, mostly in limited vinyl or cdr editions.  With Wichita's release of "Hey Cool Kid" & in a week’s time “Turning On”, music fans the world over (the Carpark label release in the US) can now hear and enjoy Cloud Nothings without scouring the internet in search of hard-to-find seven inch singles.
