You Can Count On Me by Panda Bear

The big cheese, or head honcho from Animal Collective's new single minces along the "chillwave" expressway like a man with a ghost for a shadow. It's pretty good stuff actually. It's a bit ponderous, bittersweet and I guess fairly reflective too. It has a good beat and a very catchy vocal line that is swathed in Spector's own reverb. The tune maintains a steady course and doesn't throw any sudden shifts in tempo or sonics. All this with a sweet thick production sound that you can easily lose your self in. A gluey pit of relaxed greatness! Reminds the scene at the end of H.P Lovecrafts "FRom Beyond" ...well kind of. There is a pit, but instead of greatness there is some kind of gory mess ...and in this single no actors turn up...so its nothing like it then! So anyway I digress, this single should tickle your fancy if your into stuff that makes you feel quite joyous and blissfully spaced out. A sweet effort.

• A gentle duet between Panda Bear and himself, ‘You Can Count On Me’ glimmers with third world melodic overtones, an ethereal uplifting number that is over before you become too familiar.

• ‘Alsatian Darn’ on the other hand is a much different creature. A slightly foreboding track with an off-beat melancholy chord progression that occasionally lets the light break through with a jaunty two-step, if ever so briefly.

•    ‘You Can Count On Me’ is the second in the series of 7” singles on separate labels from Panda Bear, previewing ‘Tomboy’ the much-anticipated follow- up to ‘Person Pitch’, to be released on the Paw Tracks label.

•    Strictly limited to 500 copies.
