Excepter - Late

Late by Excepter

4...according to our on Thu 21 Oct, 2010.

This 23rd record from New York vocal/electronics outfit Excepter is a pretty crazy affair that creates double confusion due to the fact that the A-side plays inside out (or is it back to front?). Can't work out if it's a pressing fault or what but the B-side plays normal style?? Strange. Other than that it's business as usual for this mysterious experimental crew with four tracks recorded at various times in various live/recording studio settings. It kicks off with a strange dubby effort that is appropriately spaced out and loopy (not mental - I mean it's based on a load of short loop samples) before going even dubbier and minimalist on the second track. The B-side opener is a little livelier with queasy melodies playing over a bunch of weird vocal outbursts and some tasteful 808 beats before heading back into mysterious abstract dub territory. Well strange business I say. It's worth mentioning that the 12" comes with a download code for the 'Tank Tapes'. So that's over an hour of bonus downloadable material...well fair.

The 23rd Excepter record: The Late EP. The Black Rust Rush Tour of “High Noon” lore. One track recorded at Oberlin Dionysus Disco, Fall 2009, in I-94 palindrome dub by R/N. One track recorded at 382 Jeff Street by Lala with the TR-808. 2009-2010 edit. Two tracks live on “Presidence Day” at the Glass Lands, February 16th, 2010, by Derek Maxwell, sound engineer. The Late EP returns Excepter to Woodsist. All four tracks are previously unreleased. The Tank Tapes are included as a complimentary bonus digital download with the record. Excepter is New York City’s premiere improvisatory, vocal-and-electronics cosmic beat-box band. Whether on stage, on record or on video, Excepter never gives the expected, and this is no exception...
