Right. I'm the office Walkmen fan. I still am. Years & years after first hearing them I'm still loyal. So times have-a-moved on, bands have flopped onto the banks of my affection then a few years later they get cast back in disdainfully, as their shtick has revealed itself to be a bit shallow or more honestly, I've just got bored & moved on. I can't quite ever let go of this band though, as they've not remotely compromised their sound or energy. I'd still consider it a supreme night out going to see them live although half my friends think "they're awful & the singer sounds like Rod Stewart being sodomised by Roger Daltrey" I don't give two shits, they're still the finest band in New York, even better than Interpol. Who's gonna argue with me? 'The Rat' was probably THE best indie guitar tune EVER written!! Prove me wrong, go on! You can't, can you? 'Angela Surf City' is a great boisterous comeback single which sounds totally passionate, tightly produced & timeless like all their stuff. And they're finally on a sympathetic label, having signed to the increasingly spot-on Bella Union. I think they'll get looked after there. For they are a treasure you see.
THE WALKMEN return in October 2010 with “Lisbon”, their sixth studio album, and their first for Bella Union records… “Lisbon” is the follow-up to the highly-acclaimed “You and Me” which figured in many best of lists for 2008 and was described as “intimate, intense and beautiful” by The Guardian in a 5 star review… ‘Angela Surf City’ is the 1st single to be lifted from the new record & is backed by exclusive b-side ‘Good Day Carry On’.
